Charloette Davidson - Charley to her friends - is a Private investigator who works along side her Uncle Bob and the local PD. She loves Charlie Brown (the Peanuts cartoon) bed spreads, is obsessed with coffee at 3am, enjoys hot men, hates her stepmother but the woman had it coming, loves a verbal sparing match with anyone who will listen and long walks along the beach. Oh and she also sees the dead. Which is normal if you are a Grim Reaper, which she is.

Charley Davidson's life has never been normal. Being born with the ability to see ghosts and understand every conceivable language known to man, she pretty much waved normal goodbye at birth. Since an unfortunate series of unfortunate events - including a run in with her stepmother's hand across her face at the age of 5 - childhood for Charley became a game of what crap could happen next. Charley began working with her police detective father as a consultant at a very early age. When he retired, Charley went to college, worked with the peace core, then set up her own PI firm working along side her Uncle.

But it takes a special kind of person to understand the quirks and sarcasm that is Charley Davidson, and ghost or not, that wouldn't dismiss you from her inner circles. So when strange things start happening all around her - stranger than normal that is, it takes everything that makes Charley one kickarse PI to get through the other side still standing.

I enjoyed this Urban Fantasy by Darynda Jones. It has humour in spades, mystery and suspense in bucket loads, sexy god-like creatures in abundance and heart and soul - a whole lot of soul. If you love a paranormal take on investigative thrillers, with heaps to laugh at, then First Grace on the Right is a great read for you.

5 stars for First Grave, 5 for the series!
