Kickin' Female Lead
Magic Bites kicks off a paranormal series with one of the most kick arse heroine's I've ever read. She's street smart, magic smart and supernatural smart, and in a time where magic has leaked into the world overtaking technology in supremacy, she really does have to know her stuff.
Working as a mercenary for hire, Kate is just minding her own take downs, when her legal guardian Uncle Greg is slaughtered in a horrific way. Being one of the supernatural big wigs, her uncle's death doesn't go unnoticed. Now Kate has to figure out a way to investigate his death and the case he was working on that lead to his death and all without insulting the local necromancer hive and their vampires or pissing off the ware pack alpha and she has to do it all without the knights in charge figuring out what she is up to. Not that big a deal really…..
I love that Kate isn't afraid to get the job done, even when it means meeting up with some pretty shady characters, or walking straight into an ambush. This book is the first in a long series of books in the Kate Daniels series so it does make an effort to introduce all the main characters, both protagonist and antagonist. I enjoyed the story, but found all the new introductions a little tiring.
It is definitely a great series with a serious, magic sword wielding kickarse heroine.
4 stars out of 5 for this book, am looking to reading more.
