SURPERB SUPERHERO

Powerless

The Hero Agenda Series

By Tera Lynn Childs and Tracy Deebs

Science Fiction Paranormal Mystery

Kickarse Female Lead

By day, Kenna works for her mum in a top not-so-secret lab that works on enhancing the super powers of the world's Superheros and by night, well she still works for her mum in the lab. Yeah, no powers, no life makes Kenna a not very interesting person. But it isn't until one evening when the lab is broken into by Supervillians that Kenna realises she isn't so powerless after all and she made sure the villains who were trying to destroy the lab and blow up the whole building got hurt along the way. In the process of doing what bad guys do, one of them ends up saving her life, twice, leaving Kenna really confuses about who the bad guys really are.

When her mother goes missing, Kenna finds the only place she can turn to for help is with the same Supervillians who broke into the lab in the first place. Then she discovers that the good guys aren't the good guys and the bad guys are bad because they were born with the wrong powers and the whole thing leaves her confused. Then things get even more crazier when the serum her mother designed for Kenna to take daily gets stolen from her house because it means that someone knew about the illegal experiment that she and her mother were doing and it means that whatever that serum was was blocking her slowly developing powers, powers she never knew she had.

I liked Kenna a lot, especially when she knew she was in danger going up against very scary and very powerful villains when they attacked the lab, but she told them what-for in the face of death and came out stronger than ever, even when she was completely powerless in more ways than one. The rest of the story lacked the sassy attitude found in Kenna in that lab scene, and we find her getting more and more concerned about her mother and her powers coming to life that I began to wonder if I was reading a story about two different characters.

It was an OK read as it became a little predictable by the end. 3.5 stars out of 5 for this book, I haven't read the rest of the series yet.
